Young Women Empowered provides creative leadership programs for teen women in the greater Seattle area. We serve a diverse group of girls, ages 12-18, and women mentors, ages 19-70+. Currently, 90% of the youth are immigrants to the US. 85% of the youth and 50% of the adults are women of color.

Jamie Rose EdwardsProgram Director
Jamie-Rose brings over 8 years of experience in the non-profit development and management fields. She is passionate about empowering young women as community leaders and building positive relationships between women of differing backgrounds and generations. She graduated from Earlham College in 2007 with a B.A. in Peace and Global Studies. She received the Kathryn Wasserman Davis Award and a $10,000 grant for Peace Mural Project in 2007.

Majd BaniodehProgram Coordinator
Majd came to the US from Palestine at 15 on a highly competitive State Department exchange program. She recently graduated from Seattle University. At college she dedicated herself to raising awareness about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and leading programs that foster love, tolerance and equality. Through her work at several Seattle NGO's and at a USAID project in Djibouti, East Africa, she is deeply committed to empowering young women.

Leslie Cotter, MDAdvisory Board Chair
Leslie Cotter is a psychiatrist, executive coach, and facilitator who specializes in training youth work professionals in ways to hold generative conversations with young people. Leslie leads programs for girls and trains adults in methods for using arts in youth work. Through her career as a psychiatrist she has worked with a wide range of clients from the seriously mentally ill to people healing from trauma and dealing with life challenges.

Peggy TaylorSenior Advisor
Peggy has over 30 years experience as a social entrepreneur and is known internationally for her work integrating the arts into youth development. She is co-founder of PYE Global (Partners for Youth Empowerment) that works with communities worldwide to provide transformative programs for their youth. She has an M Ed in Creative Arts and Learning from Lesley University and has served on the faculty of Bainbridge Graduate Institute.

Rahwa GhebremichaelOutreach Manager
Rahwa graduated from Shorecrest High School in 2011 and is a student at Shoreline Community College. As a student in Y-WE she had a life changing experience coordinating our international dinner and show for 300 people. Rahwa came to the US with her family from Eretria 8 years ago and is deeply committed to young women empowerment. She has great rapport with the girls in the program and is a role model for commitment, compassion, and hard work.
