The concept for Under One Roof was derived from a very special little boy named Stephen. Stephen is my five year old son who is diagnosed with the debilitating blood disorder by the name of Sickle Cell. I knew after thirteen long months of chronic blood transfusions twice per week along with numerous specialist appointments, my son had had enough. I was devastated to learn that were no significant changes in Stephens prognosis. I had to take action, I owed it to this remarkable child to research alternatives that would change his life and so I did. I was readily confronted with some resistance by the team of doctors as it was explained to me by the Oncology Department at the children's hospital following Stephen so eloquently put "In the grand scheme of things it is better that we control his symptoms with certain medications, we understand those medication cause degenerative effects to his liver and kidney's but no worries we will place Stephen on dialysis when the time comes". Words that I will forever live with. I began decreasing his transfusions and daily medicine regime and I started to incorporate healthy foods grown by farmers who did not use toxins to grow their crops. Western Medicine and the Western Diet have the same ideologies, to masquerade the immediate concern and to eventually leave you medication dependent. Both the Western Diet as well as Western Medicine are both industrial produced with harmful side affects. Due to inadequate laws regarding food labeling it was equally important for me to trust the food source. A very difficult task (I resided in the inner city) but a amazing result, I had to drive nearly 90 miles to find verifiable Organic/ Non GMO foods. Under One roof has strategically created a concept where consumers conveniently can shop for all of their strictly Non GMO / Organic needs all under one roof. Imagine a place where your shopping can be done with the confidence of purchasing foods that have not been compromised/genetically modified in any way of their nutritional value. Under One Roof will have an on-site Nurse Practitioner to assist consumers with questions regarding healthier eating options, every aisle will be outfitted with information kiosks equipped with internet capabilities to research product ingredients, an alkaline water fountain, a smoothie bar, organic tea and coffee station, a state of the art kitchen where culinary artist can host healthy cooking seminars and my most favorite a Hot Yoga studio and yes all Under One Roof.
