UbiQD, Inc. developed a new kind of quantum dot (QD), a safer/greener chemistry, that is lower-cost, and has better reliability than previous QDs. The company is first applying these luminescent materials in greenhouse films to optimize the sun’s spectrum for improved crop yield. The company is a spin-off from Los Alamos National Laboratory and manufactures the enabling nanomaterials and prototypes, at its facility in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
