Ian founded Thread after journaling in the wake of the Port-au-Prince earthquake "If Haiti transforms trash into money=good". It is his second successful business. At Penn State, he was the 2004 Undergraduate Student Government President, & this year was recognized as one of Pittsburgh's "40 Under 40". He has spoken about Thread's work with the poor for TEDx & One Young World. In 2005 he placed 3rd on CBS Survivor: Palau. He is an Eagle Scout.

As COO of Thread, Lee merges his recent experience in strategic planning, finance, and marketing with his previous background running the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, working for a global health NGO, and consulting for a social/economic business incubator. He earned an MBA from UNC and a BS from Penn State, is one of Pittsburgh’s 40 under 40, and speaks regularly about entrepreneurship, supply chain, and sustainability.
