Company Summary
Soletics is providing solutions for individuals with Raynaud’s Disease, a lifelong connective tissue disorder that lowers quality of life. Six million people have been diagnosed with the disease in the US, but it is estimated that nearly fifteen million suffer from it. Raynaud’s causes extreme vasospasms in the extremities of sufferers when exposed to significant temperature differentials or emotional stress. These “attacks” cause blood vessels near the skin to rapidly contract, cutting off blood-flow. This turns skin purple and white, even leading to gangrene and tissue loss in severe cases. Attacks can last minutes to hours and happen multiple times per day. An attack will continue until the sufferer applies heat to the affected area. Though there is no cure for this disease, Soletics is developing ultra-thin, battery powered, heated gloves, to aid in pain and symptom management of the disease. These gloves house sensors in each finger, which send real-time biofeedback to a powerband that connects separately to the glove. This feedback allows the glove to create microclimates around each finger, accounting for individual temperature variations between fingers and saving energy. The gloves are also able to sense a temperature differential before the user can, meaning the gloves will be able to maintain a warmer environment and the user’s hand will never receive a temperature shock. At any activity level, the user’s hands will remain comfortable without the need to manually adjust any settings or layers. The company will be in full commercial launch in Q1 2016.
