Company Summary

SenSigma is commercializing a revolutionary monitoring and feedback system that uses optical emission spectroscopy to enable composition and phase transformation prediction, improved weld quality and increased in-line, no-defect product throughput in robot performed laser and arc welding processes. It will reduce excess scrap, additional material cost, poor long-term product quality and lost labor time for welding/metal manufacturing industries.

Team

  • Lijun Song
    CTO

Dr. Song holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and has many years of experience on the sensing and control of laser aided manufacturing process. He has three pending patents on the sensing and control of laser material processing, one of which has been successfully implemented in the POM Group. He has published his research in 25 different journals and presented his works at 12 different international conferences.

  • SeungHwan Lee
    Chief Engineer

Mr. Lee is currently a Ph. D candidate in Mechanical Engineering Department at the U of M, and has many years of experience on the sensing of Disk and CO2 laser welding process. He has two pending patents on the monitoring of the welding quality by inspection of the plasma generated during the welding process. Mr. Lee is responsible for the algorithm design, and communicating with the client to improve the design of the sensor system.

  • Jyoti Mazumder
    Chairman

Dr. Mazumder is the Robert H. Lurie Professor of Engineering and the Director of NSF/IUCRC at U of M. He serves as the CEO of a Michigan based start-up called POM Group Inc by commercializing closed loop Direct Metal Deposition process, for which he was awarded Thomas A Edison Patent Award. POM group also won Automotive News PACE Award for the impact of DMD on the automotive industry. He published 350 papers and has 15 issued patents.
