SafeCare is a web-based service that monitors nurse aides and reports acts of abuse or criminal activity to employers. We focus on nurse aides because they have the highest number of convictions among direct care staff and have been linked to the rising abuse problem in these facilities. Nearly all nursing homes employ a worker with a criminal conviction. Of those convictions, 16 percent occurred after the nurse aide's beginning date of hire.
