Company Summary

PotaVida meets aid organizations’ need for affordable household water treatment and detailed, accurate data on usage with our patent pending product that uses sunlight to disinfect water. We’ve field tested four times, and are ramping to mass production. We contract manufacture and sell in bulk to aid organizations, then provide usage data analytics for program evaluation and reporting. We will diversify into other usage monitoring applications.

Team

  • Charlie is the technical architect of PotaVida’s Solar Water Purifier. He the team to a $40K prize in the original design competition, and conducted the recent field trial in Uganda. He has a BS in engineering from Harvey Mudd College and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Washington. He understands how to leverage for-profit business and technology development models to provide market-based solutions to the developing world.

  • Tyler has a background in public policy and economics, 3 years of field work experience in developing countries, and has conducted research on benefits and costs of social programs in 6 countries for the Gates Foundation. He leads PotaVida’s grant writing efforts. Tyler's experience includes economic modeling of subsistence economies and benefit cost analysis of access to information and communication technology.

  • Jackie Linnes oversees biological compliance and has conducted field trials in Nicaragua and Zambia. She is an expert in health solutions for low-resource settings. She is an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Purdue University, and holds a PhD in bioengineering and a certificate in Global Health from the University of Washington.

  • VP Sales

    Randy has more than 30 years experience in the international relief and development arena, including hands-on experience on the ground in Congo 1984-85 and Rwanda 1994. He led in the development of a half-dozen key lines of business for World Vision, including their current WASH campaign, that resulted in over $11 billion ($1 billion in cash and $10 billion in kind) for World Vision. Strong team-building and cross-cultural negotiation skills.
