Pono Pedaler LLC

Pono Pedaler allows customers to travel the city on a 14 person pedal powered vehicle. Passengers are permitted to consume beer or wine on board.

Company Summary

Pono Pedaler is a rather simple concept. The 14 passenger vehicle creates momentum from the pedalling of its passengers. Patrons can enjoy alcoholic beverages, limited to beer and wine, while touring the streets of Kona. Glass will not be permitted in any form in an effort to avoid dangerous litter and injuries. At least one employee of the company will serve as a driver/tour guide for the guests. This employee will have a separation barrier from the customers that will still allow them to verbally communicate. Whenever possible, a second staff member will ride in the “customer cockpit” to add to the touring experience and serve as a bartender. One or both of these employees will ensure that passengers are practicing all rules to achieve utmost safety while following local, state, and federal laws/policies.

Pono Pedaler will offer a new, exciting way to tour the beautiful landscape and nightlife area that is Kona. New and repeat business is inevitably grown off word of mouth and the vehicle’s physical presence on the streets. Pono Pedaler will capitalize on tourist and locals alike, looking to be shown a good time while experiencing the Big Island. It is expected that the majority of business will come from tourists, who are already expecting to spend money on leisure activities while vacationing.

This concept has reflected amazing success on the mainland, and has shown to help other companies flourish. Many companies rapidly expand within the first year of operation off this fun loving way to experience what cities have to offer. A natural relationship is formed with local businesses including shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, and alcohol centered storefronts. These relationships bring tens of thousands of dollars in revenue to local businesses that may not be experienced otherwise. Playing an active role in the community and keeping open dialogues with local government and business will ensure continued success for all parties involved in this concept.Evan Wood - Founder, President/Operating Owner
Evan studied Business and Political Science at Louisiana Tech University. He began work in restaurants and bars while in college; where he rapidly worked his way into management while still in school. In 2013, he left his General Manager position at a downtown Raleigh restaurant to take a position as General Manager of “Trolley Pub of Raleigh,” a company in the same industry as “Pono Pedalar.” From there, he was promoted to Regional Manager and soon to a national role, directing managers across the nation and helping in the opening of new locations. During his employment, he helped open three new locations, broke several monthly revenue records, and increased fiscal sales by over 30%.
