Company Summary

Plus MAT is commercializing a novel and cost-effective system to recover photovoltaic Silicon from wafer sawing waste. With the patented technology from Plus MAT AG, presently lost Si can be recovered as feedstock at a much lower cost (<10$/kg) than the market price (20$/kg). The recovery technology transforms the waste (sawing slurry) into raw material (Si feedstock) for PV production, thus reduces the PV energy production cost significantly.

Team

  • Yun Luo
    CEO

Founder and CEO, Dr. Luo has a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Fudan Uni. in China, an engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique in France, and a PhD from MPI in Germany. She worked in technology management in Meyer Burger Group and her industry experience spreads over the whole PV value chain – from Si ingot sawing process, to cell technology, to PV module encapsulation, and to the development of tomorrow’s PV cells/modules testing method.

  • Pierre René Beljean
    CIO

Born in 1949, Pierre Beljean graduated from EICN in 1970 as Electronics Engineer. Then he worked in watch industry until 1979. He created his own company in 1979, that later became Pasan SA, and built the first flasher for PV industry in 1981. Afterwards Pasan flasher became the standard for PV module characterization. His company was later merged with Meyer Burger group. He was CTO of Pasan up to 2012. Pierre joined Plus MAT as CIO in 2013.

  • Martina Bucher
    COO

Graduated from EPFL majoring in Microtechnique and minoring in Management of Technology and Entrepreneurship, Mrs. Bucher joined Scaco Medical AG in Brüttisellen as R&D engineer from 2008. In 2011, she became the teamleader of hardware support in Tecan Schweiz AG in Männedorf until November 2012. She joined Plus MAT AG in December 2012 and has been responsible for the equipment and process development since then.

  • Chief Technology Advisor

Prof. Hoffmann holds a PhD degree in chemistry at EPFL(CH). After a post-doc fellowship at IBM Almaden Research Lab. (USA) between 1992 and 1993, he returned to EPFL as senior scientist. His industrial experience was acquired from 1995-1997 as dental section head at Gramm Technik (DE). From 1997 to 2009 he held senior research and teaching position in EPFL. In April 2009 he became head of the Laboratory at Empa (CH) and adjunct professor at EPFL.

  • VP Business Development
