Ocean Energy Company has a patented linear turbine which harnesses ocean currents to generate electricity for direct transfer to the grid. Its capital and operating costs are less than any other technology. The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute of Florida Atlantic University has agreed to design and test a commercial-scale version of the device, and OEC is seeking a $2.5 million grant to fund the HBOI project.
