The company was founded on November 16, 2009 as an electrical engineering consulting firm. Since September 2014, it restructured itself to develop emerging and highly innovative solutions for addressing the unmet needs in the field of human machine interaction. The company planned to address such unmet needs and provide value to the clinical sector through the development of innovative machine vision/learning and non-intrusive user interaction technologies.

TIPSO is the company’s flagship family of products that is commercially available – enabling surgeons to interact with operating room equipment and radiology imaging by utilizing unique and practical touchless interfaces designed for sterile use. TIPSO emerged through years of innovation and collaboration with thought leaders in the field of minimally invasive surgery. Commercially deployed in various world-leading clinical institutions by NZTech and its international partners, TIPSO has delivered outstanding safety and economic benefits for the healthcare system.

  • CEO and Founder

    Over two decades, Nima has combined expertise in technology development, early stage start-ups, and technology commercialization to create innovative products for the healthcare, mining, oil and gas, and automotive sectors. At NZTech and since 2014, Nima has been instrumental in taking an R&D project to a commercialized medical product in just five years and achieving $4.2M of revenue and funding from government and private investors.

  • Director of Engineering

    Pranav has been overseeing and creating the foundation for the technology since its inception. He has a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics, with distinction, from the University of British Columbia - with specializations in electrical engineering and machine vision. He manages the engineering team with the goal of pushing NZTech's innovative ideas into physical reality.

    Dr. Lesley Esford, the former President of LifeSciences BC, received her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from UBC and has spent many years in academia, industry and government in positions supporting the growth of the Life Sciences sector. Since 2006, she has worked as an ITA for NRC-IRAP, helping over 100 entrepreneurs developing a wide array of products at every stage of the innovation process, from concept to commercialization.

    Dr. Liu is an Interventional Radiologist and the Professor of Radiology at UBC. He holds clinical appointments at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), UBC Hospital, and the BC Cancer Agency. Dr. Liu is thought leader in the fields of Image- Guided Therapy and Interventional Radiology. He has made significant contributions to the clinical research and development in novel embolic platforms, and cancer related thromboembolic disease.

  • VP of Sales and Marketing

    David has over 20 years of experience working in the medical technology space, focused on sales and marketing of various surgical and interventional devices. He has held leadership roles in market development in North America, AsiaPac, and other international regions. He brings a strong record of launching numerous products to the market and driving commercial growth in various targeted geographies.

  • Dr. Shahram Tafazoli
    Member - Board of Directors

    More than 25 years of experience in building successful companies with international operations. Shahram is currently the Founding CEO of Motion Metrics International, a private Canadian corporation that develops intuitive, cutting-edge camera and sensor-based monitoring solutions for mining and oil and gas sectors. Their technological solutions have been deployed in over 55 mines worldwide.

    Michael is an accomplished professional in the medical device space, starting in the early 1990’s with sales of neurosurgical instruments. He is the CEO at Pacific Surgical. Upon taking on the ownership of PS 10 years ago, he has grown the company which now holds 6 subsidiaries that cover a wide range of surgical devices and services. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the healthcare market to guide NZTech’s commercial expansion effort.

    Terry is an experienced executive in the life sciences sector, with a focus on business development and finance. Most recently he was part of the senior management team at Coastal Contacts, a world leading optical company that was acquired by Essilor International for $430 million. He is the President of ZT Capital Inc., which focuses on investing in early stage companies and assisting in their growth.
