Company Summary

Each year about 15000 patients suffering from blood-related cancers do not find donors for a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Even for successful BMTs, there are chances of a transplant rejection or cancer remission. Our mission is to provide such patients with an alternative treatment that does not rely on donated marrows. We utilize the patient's own stem cells for a transplant, minimizing risk and ensuring that everyone receives affordable care.

Team

  • Bhushan Mahadik
    Co-Founder and Scientific Advisor

Bhushan Mahadik is a 5th yr. graduate student in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engg Dept. working under Dr. Brendan Harley's supervision. His primary research focus is understanding the regulation and controlling the biology of hematopoietic stem cells that generate the body's blood and immune cells. He has built a microfluidics-based biomaterial platform that allows mimicry of the native bone marrow to guide stem cell fate and differentiation.

  • Ji Sun (Sunny) Choi

Sunny Choi is a 5th yr. graduate student in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engg Dept. working under Dr. Brendan Harley's supervision. She is working towards building artificial bone marrow to direct hematopoietic stem cell fate for clinical applications. To understand the regulation processes, she employs small-scale combinatorial biomaterials to study how microenvironment mechanics and chemistry orchestrate hematopoiesis and lymphopoiesis.
