The current market for US equities has no displayed trading venue for large blocks. Because of disincentives at other venues, large trades must often be split up into retail-size orders. As a result, the average trade size on the New York Stock Exchange is under 200 shares. The Magma team, which includes former executives from Lava Trading, has come up with a solution that allows buyers and sellers of blocks of stock to meet electronically.
