Company Summary
Mafia Bags first started when a group of friends who shared a passion for sailing and nautical activities realized that old sails were being trashed without thinking of the implications to our eco-system. Sails are made from materials that include plastic and other non-renewable materials, and once a sail breaks it has two possible futures: either sold to inexperienced people who are willing to buy broken sails (causing a risk to future sailing activities), or discarded as a non-biodegradable product.
The mission of the company is to offer a new solution to certain types of waste (starting with sails) by reusing them in new, innovative ways. This resulted in the concept of high impact design and functional products for the young and adventurous. All the products are created with the highest care to environmental and sustainability concerns.
Each Mafia Bag product is unique as each sail has a different story, and all of our products are made in California. Mafia Bags creates a variety of sustainable products, from wallets, bags and backpacks, to accessories.
Many milestones have been achieved which showed us that the US market is a great fit for our products, including a successful Kickstarter campaign (raising $25,000), collaborations with well established brands such as Vans Company, new partnerships with suppliers of sails in the US, and improving sales over the course of the year 2015 to date.
