Company Summary

Lost Lake Farm is a grass-based dairy farm and artisan cheese company based in Hamilton County, Iowa. We will begin selling mozzarella, provolone, and alpine cheeses through farmers' markets, buying clubs, and retail stores in Iowa beginning in 2016. Our cheese is made on-farm from the milk of our pasture-raised Normande-cross cows. Lost Lake Farm is an Iowa limited liability company (LLC).


  • Kevin has worked on organic and conventional dairy, crop and vegetable farms in the US and Germany and in ag research and farmer support, most recently at Practical Farmers of Iowa as the Grazing Coordinator. He has a BA in biology from the University of MN Morris. He has taken several courses on cheese making and has been making cheese for five years. In addition to managing Lost Lake Farm, he is also managing a 4200-head hog finishing facility.

  • Ranae grew up on a hog farm in central Iowa and has worked on hog, poultry, dairy and crop farms in the US and Ukraine. She has a BA in biology from the University of MN Morris, an MS in soil science from Cornell University, and a PhD in Agronomy and Sustainable Agriculture from Iowa State University. She is currently employed at ISU as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate.
