We support Southern Polytechnic State University faculty and students in research and development and the application of sustainability in their area of expertise. This support includes cradle to grave contractual and administrative services, including; 1) identification of research and support activities 2) development and submission of proposals 3) Administration of grants and contracts and 4) Management of intellectual property.

  • Ed Akins
    Director of Education & Research

    Ed graduated with a Master of Architecture Degree in 1996 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has worked for local Atlanta architectural firms for 11 yrs. He began teaching in 2002 and has continued to expose and explore explores the delicate relationship between human occupation and nature through local art installations, and as the co-author of conference papers on reparative planning and solar accommodation in design.

  • Jim Mabes
    Director of Adminstration & Development

    Jim is a native of Marietta, Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1978 from Southern Polytechnic State University. Jim has over 30 years of experience in heavy industrial and commercial construction projects with a special focus in sustainability. Jim is a LEED AP BD+C in good standing. He currently serves as the Past Chair of the USGBC Georgia Chapter, Atlanta Branch Leadership Group.
