    Having pursued a Bachelor of Commerce with Law degree at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, he embarked on an 8 year career in the marketing and advertising industry, working both in Port Elizabeth and in Johannesburg, South Africa. Mr. Akapelwa returned to Zambia in 2012.
