Company Summary

Guanine’s multiplex biosensor quantifies low concentration nucleic acids, proteins, small molecules, cells and redox materials in a single assay. Our inexpensive test cartridge and mobile device change detection signal from optic to electric by binding targets with millions of electric oligonucleotides. 36 to 96 unique targets can be detected in a sample. Guanine was incubated at Mount Sinai (NY). Its predecessor was spun out from NASA.

Team

  • President

Neil Gordon, B. Eng., MBA has experience in cutting edge products. He was one of nanotechnology’s first business consultants worked with Taiwan's national lab ITRI. Neil headed commercialization for the NASA-led CANEUS consortium and spun out a biodetection company. Neil secured $10M funding and oversaw 35 people. Neil founded Guanine and invented the technology, obtained a CDC grant, granted 3 patents and formed a collaboration with Mount Sinai.

  • Raj Bawa, MD, PhD
    VP and Chief IP Officer

Raj Bawa MD, PhD has experience as a medical researcher, PI, NIH reviewer and patent agent. He has over 100 publications and organized numerous medical conferences. Raj was PI on Guanine’s CDC-funded SBIR. Raj is leading Guanine’s efforts to apply the technology to sepsis diagnosis and clinical trials and will pursue collaborators. Raj was trained as a microbiologist and is a pioneer in nanomedicine.

  • Garry Palmateer, MS
    VP Assay Development

Garry Palmateer, B.S., M.S. is a microbiologist with vast experience in detecting multiple pathogens. He ran pathogen testing labs in the private sector and at the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Health. He oversaw remediation of the Walkerton E. coli outbreak. Garry co-developed the pathogen sensor and inline testing instrument at Guanine's predecessor NASA spin-off. He developed Guanine's assay protocols for various pathogens.
