Prior to Genia, Dr, Gonthier co-founded in 1997 a fiber optic component manufacturer, ITF optical technologies, was president until 1999, and CTO until 2006 when ITF was sold. ITF raised $100 M, and went from 3 to 500 employees. Prior to ITF, Dr. Gonthier was R&D coordinator at Alcatel Canada for 5 years. Dr. Gonthier has more than 35 patents or applications. Dr. Gonthier has a B. eng, Master and Ph.D from Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal.

At Nortel, Joseph held several roles including Sr. Program Manager, responsible for taking successfully from concept to delivery of Nortel leading products. He also held senior management roles at ITF Optical Technologies and EXFO. He holds a B. Eng in Electrical Engineering, Concordia University, 1983
