Flow Equity/Mekelle Farms
We are addressing the problem of protein deficiency and poverty by supplying rural households with inputs and productive breeds of chicken.
Chicken is the most expensive form of protein in Ethiopia. There is an estimated shortage of 60-70 million chickens annually. Since taking over a failing government farm one year ago, we have successfully implemented a new distribution model, turned Mekelle Farms profitable, and are on track to producing and distributing over 400,000 chickens this year to rural farmers—a 27x production increase over previous government management.
