Elpipes are robust polymer-insulated underground HVDC electric pipelines based on large aluminum conductors . Elpipes comprise pipe-shaped segment modules which are joined by splice modules, flexibly insulated, and mounted on wheeled carriages that run (rather like a slow train) inside a conduit that is essentially identical to a gas pipeline. The train-like feature simplifies installation and repair greatly.
