Company Summary

ESL is a start-up of UM Baltimore and has developed HLBT-100 a synthetic version of a natural compound isolated from Tillandsia recurvata. In pre-clinical studies the molecule crossed the blood brain barrier in in vivo and displayed anti-cancer activity against multiple cancer, neurodegenerative cells and other diseases in vitro and was 500x more active against glioblastoma than the current standard of care Temozolomide.

    Dr. Lowe is internationally recognized for his research in the field of “Ethno-medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Pharmacology and Biochemistry.” A Jamaican-born medicinal chemist, he has extensively studied the potential for plant-based compounds to treat a range of chronic diseases – including cancers, diabetes and viral diseases. Lowe is also the Executive Chairman of the Environmental Health Foundation based at Kingston Jamaica.

    Dr. Toyang has over 20 years of research experience in the field of drug discovery and pharmacognosy at various research institutions including Heifer International, National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy; Natural Products Research Laboratory of the University of Leiden, The Netherlands and the Institute of Human Virology of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

    Mr. Deasey is CEO of 2nd Stage BioAdvisers LLC, which provides assistance in the set up of medical/biotech corps. He has experience in accounting with Price Waterhouse. Has been in the medical/biotech sector since 2000 and served as CFO, COO and CEO of Celsion Corp through FDA PMA clearance and sale to Boston Scientific, a device for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia; and clinical development through Phase 1 of Thermodox, an oncology drug.
