Historically the underwater world deeper than diver depth has been accessible only to governments, institutions and private companies with deep pockets. DeepFlight was founded to unlock the oceans for private recreation and tourism by developing a fundamentally new class of personal submarine which operate based on principles of flight found in airplanes and helicopters. We have significant industry traction and are currently generating revenue.

  • Graham Hawkes
    Founder and CEO

    Graham Hawkes is an award-winning ocean engineer and entrepreneur who has been responsible for the design of a significant percentage of all underwater vehicles built for research or industry worldwide. In the early 1990's, Mr. Hawkes co-founded Deep Ocean Engineering, a successful company building ROVs for commercial, industrial, and military purposes. Later he founded, and successfully exited through acquisition, a defense technology company.

  • Adam Wright
    President and COO

    Adam has been with DeepFlight since 2000, playing a lead role in the development of all major projects. He has a unique awareness for the potential of DeepFlight in recreational markets. Recognizing his talent for management and entrepreneurship, and his vision for the future of the Company, Adam was elevated to the position of President and COO in 2013. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from UC Berkeley and speaks fluent Mandarin.

  • Karen Hawkes
    VP Publicity

    Karen has co-founded several companies in the ocean exploration field and is a specialist in PR and communications. Previous to DeepFlight, she produced documentaries for American Adventure Films and was an Associate at Kekst and Company, a corporate PR firm. She holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University, and an MBA, with a focus on International Marketing, from New York University Stern School of Business.

  • Dr. Kenneth Laws
    Chief Scientist

    Kenneth is a highly trained physicist and electronics engineer who has many years experience developing marine technology, both as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at UC Santa Cruz, and after joining the DeepFlight team in 2012. Previously he led the Coastal Ocean Currents Monitoring Program using HF radar to monitor surface currents along the California coast. He holds a PhD in Physics from UC Santa Cruz.

  • James Tustin
    Operations Manager

    Jay has 20 years experience in the undersea industry as a marine technician, diving safety officer, research diver, operational crew chief, and marine superintendent. His experience spans laboratories and at sea, nurturing a practical approach to discovering solutions to challenges of subsea technology development.
