Company Summary

From 1999 to 2002, Lucian Dressel developed a new family of wine grapevines in Davis, California with the assistance of the USDA and Univ. of CA, Davis. These hardy vines, bred primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, have revolutionizing grape growing in the United States. Over 50 growers in 19 states from Virginia to California are now growing these vines. Each vine is covered by a United States Plant Patent (either received or applied for).

    After selling the Mount Pleasant Winery in 1994 Dressel moved to Davis, California where while working with vines in the National Germ Plasm Repository he bred and developed a revolutionary new family of grape vines by crossing the highest quality European grape varieties with Norton. The company he founded, Davis Viticultural Research began selling these new patented varieties nationwide in 2007.

    From 2006 to 2011 Joseph was the Winemaker at the Mary Michelle Winery a.k.a. Illinois Cellars Winery, in Carrollton, Illinois, a winery with a 100,000 gallon capacity drawing grapes from its own 75 acre vineyard as well as other vineyards in Illinois, Missouri and Virginia. For the 2012 harvest Joseph worked as the onsite winemaking consultant for the Harkness Edwards Winery in Lexington, KY.
