Every 68 seconds, one person in the U.S. is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In 2050, a person will be diagnosed with a form of dementia once every 33 seconds. Compounding the scope of these statistics is the fact that every day over the next 20 years there are expected to be 10,000 people per day that will turn 65 years old. Urinary incontinence occurs frequently for those patients. The patients commonly suffer discomfort from the catheter and, in their cognitively deficient state, consequently act to “fix” the problem by pulling or tugging on the catheter, often resulting in irritation, major infections, and bladder damage UTI, Urinary Tract infection.
We have developed a non-intrusive catheter safety product (“CSP”) intended to reduce UTI as well as pulling, tugging, or removing their catheter and help them to understand that the catheter cannot be removed. The CSP is made from medical material and is affixed to the patient’s leg. The CSP protect the catheter tubing from possible contamination caused by fecal incontinence.The material is breathable and comfortable for the patient and the tape will not cause irritation or pain when removed.
By reducing UTI and pulling, or removing their catheter, we believe the patient will be more comfortable, suffer fewer infections, hospitalizations, and less likely to require physical restraint .allowing medical staff more time to attend to other patients.. Although inspired by patients with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia,we believe the CSP will benefit any patient who has a temporary or permanent catheter, from hospitals to home care as well as those patients confined in a wheelchair.
