Nearly 1.5% of the 4 billion plus prescriptions filled annually continue to be refilled even though they have been actually discontinued by a prescriber. The CHT program would block continuing refills of prescriptions that have been discontinued. The estimated benefits are approximately 17,000 lives saved and $56 million saved. This project would be the first step towards resolving fragmented communication within various health care entities.
