Busker

Part streaming service and part direct-to-fan sales platform, Busker offers and simpler and more profitable way to distribute music online.

Company Summary

Busker is rethinking online music by uniting a fragmented landscape of distribution channels on a single platform. It addresses the needs of both artists and consumers in a vertically integrated system, creating a more cost efficient music economy where artists sell their music without the retailer middleman at 100% profit and Busker streams music without the expense of royalties.

Team

  • Alex Quinlan
    CTO/ Cofounder

Alex is a Ruby Back-end Developer who got his start in programmer as a teenager making video games. He attended Columbia's Fu School of Engineering and received a BA in Applied Physics. After graduating he worked as a software developer for Alliance Bernstein, but, wanting to put his talents to more creative use, left to join the Busker team.

  • Nelson Pecora
    Front-end Developer

Nelson attended the Rochester Institute of Technology but dropped out to go west in search of startup glory - joining the conference application Maestro. Following that, he worked at Credit Suisse, developing an Ext JS based web app. His true passion remained the startup world though, and in late 2012 he joined the Busker team to build our front-end system.

  • Tommy Shimko
    Designer

Tommy graduated from Champlain College with a BA in visual arts. Today he is a Senior Art Director at Tracy Locke Advertising. He is best friends with Will Durkin's younger brother, and when Busker was in need of a designer he quickly offered to join the team. Tommy's experience designing mobile applications and his exuberant creative style has made him a great fit.

  • Will Durkin
    CEO/ Co-founder

Will got his start in the music world through his college's student run radio station, where he DJ'ed a weekly show and served on the Executive Board. After graduating, he got a job with the CBS Radio Digital Music Group, where he worked his way up to become Project Manager of CBS web property MP3.com. Frustrated with the site's poor design and features, Will began designing a new version of MP3.com which eventually became Busker.
