Company Summary
Blue Marble Biomaterials manufactures natural and sustainable specialty chemicals from cellulosic biomass. Our target customers are food, fragrance and cosmetic manufacturers, who have seen a sustained increase in demand for natural ingredients over the past few years. Our biobased chemicals are identical in quality and composition to petrochemicals, which allow our products to be drop-in replacements for manufacturers.

In the time before Blue Marble, James worked in the industrial microbiology sector, developing food-safety products from bench-level research all the way through to sales with fortune 500 companies such as Cargill, Costco, Safeway and Tyson Foods. He also performed similar product development for a Chinese firm, managing all microbiological related research, product development, and manufacturing scale up for a wide variety of products.

Colby UnderwoodChief Business Officer
Colby has over a decade of experience in fundraising and strategy planning. Colby began his career as Finance Director for Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels and later as Deputy Finance Director for Washington Governor Gary Locke. In these capacities he developed strategies for financing, fundraising while building networks. Over the past two years, he has brought in investors and commercial partners to bring Blue Marble to commercial scale.
