Akrotome is focused on the development of smart, fluorescent molecular probes for guided, solid-tumor cancer surgery. The FIRE(TM) family of probes enable surgeons to easily and precisely determine where diseased tissue ends and healthy tissue begins, facilitating the complete removal of all cancer tissue. Unlike other molecular probes, FIRE probes use minute (microdose) amounts of probe applied topically during the surgical procedure.
