The basic idea is to grow fresh produce inside a large number of shipping containers as an alternative to a field crop or a greenhouse facility. A 15-hectare (40 acre) farm yields a certain amount of fresh produce annually. A greenhouse can typically yield roughly 10 times a field crop. Our plan is to increase the yield another factor of 10 over the greenhouse. Such a plot of land could host as many as 8,000 standard 40' shipping containers.
