Accelerating medical device and digital health solutions in the world's largest medical center

About this Program

Located in the TMC Innovation Institute, the TMCx accelerator program provides startup companies with shared workspace, a curriculum tailored to the needs of health care entrepreneurs and the guidance of over 120 advisors from the front lines of the industry. Companies have access to the world’s largest medical center, all without membership fees or equity sharing.

Participants further develop their companies by attending a variety of workshops and hands-on events to gain insights from experts in every facet of running a health-related business: clinical trials, FDA regulations, HIPAA/HITECH compliance, hospital procurement, commercial pilots, intellectual property, licensing, fundraising, marketing and other critical areas.

In addition, participants work with the TMCx team to refine strategies and build relationships across the Texas Medical Center. Companies network with key thought leaders and mentors during the Advisor Pitch Event, the TMC Expert Forum and other scheduled sessions. The four-month program culminates with TMCx Demo Day, an exclusive presentation to hundreds of investors, corporate partners, hospital stakeholders, media and other guests.

The TMCx team’s goal is to quickly and effectively connect entrepreneurs to stakeholders. Learn more at http://www.tmc.edu/innovation/innovation-programs/tmcx/

What TMCx companies get:

As a member of the digital health 2017 cohort, you will get the following:

A highly-tailored curriculum – This isn’t your typical accelerator curriculum. Our guiding principle for curriculum is if you can Google it, we won't cover it. We developed lectures, workshops, and panels catered specifically to the needs of digital health companies, with input and participation from health care entrepreneurs, clinical stakeholders, design firms, venture capital, and law firms.

Topics covered are separated into two tracks: digital health and venture formation. Under the digital health track you will learn piloting in hospitals, engaging hospital stakeholders, the procurement process, HIPAA, data security, and UI/UX specific to healthcare. Within the venture formation track, topics include business model and value proposition refinement for healthcare stakeholders, raising funding, financial modeling, intellectual property pertaining software, and cap table and equity management.

TMCx mentorship ecosystem – TMCx has an expansive network of TMC clinical subject-matter experts, hospital administrators, industry partners, venture capitalists, designers, and entrepreneurs. Startups also have access and exposure to TMC corporate partners, including Johnson & Johnson’s JLABS@TMC and AT&T Foundry for Connected Health.

An amazing workspace – Housed in TMC Innovation’s 100,000-square-foot campus, startups have a dedicated work space with storage, Wi-Fi, free printing and scanning, and access to conference rooms. Startups will also have access to prototyping facilities at TMCx, while JLABS is equipped with 3D printers and rapid prototyping tools.
