About this Program

Science Inc.™ is a cohort-based virtual accelerator at Delaware Innovation Space™ for early-stage startups in the sciences. Science INC.™ helps founders expedite progress toward critical business goals over a period of four months. In this virtual accelerator, participants will:

  • Achieve critical business milestones with the guidance of expert coaches and business curriculum.
  • Build a strong network of entrepreneurs, business leaders, and peer founders.
  • Gain access to Delaware Innovation Space First Fund investment opportunities.
  • Pitch their business to the investor community at Demo Day.
  • Access the Delaware Innovation Space community and coworking space.

  • Participation
    Delaware Innovation Space™ runs Science Inc.™ online twice a year, with approximately ten startups. One cohort runs February-May and the second cohort runs September-December.

    Participating in the accelerator involves an approximately 30 hour a month commitment. Programming includes:

  • Weekly workshops with experts - on strategy, operations, fundraising, networking, and more.
  • Weekly coaching sessions - about goal setting, business planning, and making progress.
  • Pitch preparation - to develop a compelling entrepreneurial story and a powerful pitch.
  • The experience concludes with a Demo Day event, where participants have the opportunity to pitch their companies to Delaware Innovation Space’s investor community.


    Qualifications
    Science Inc.™ is open to founders and founding teams who are building a startup in scientific sectors including, but not limited to – Advanced Materials, Biotechnology, Chemical Intermediates, Diagnostics, Healthcare, Nutrition, Renewable Energy, and Therapeutics.

    Qualified participants will have developed a technological innovation, completed foundational market research, and have begun to develop a business strategy.

    Optional Equity Investment
    Delaware Innovation Space offers Science Inc. applicants the additional opportunity to be considered for equity investment through the Innovation Space’s First Fund program. If a participating Science Inc. company is selected for the First Fund, Delaware Innovation Space invests $50,000 via a convertible note, which includes $25,000 in cash plus the $25,000 cost of the program.

    The First Fund Equity Investment is optional. Science Inc. participants may opt to forgo the equity investment and participate in the upcoming cohort free of charge.

    Participation in Science Inc.™ is partially funded through the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Build to Scale grant program.

    Participating companies are required to provide progress data during and for up to the years after the accelerator in fulfillment of the grant's reporting requirements.
