Innovation and commercialization in the forest industry

About this Program

The Forestry Accelerator is a four month program open to North American startup, pre-seed, and seed stage companies that are commercializing new and improved products, services, and technology in the forest industry. The Accelerator is based in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, providing access to industry leaders and companies.

The program provides forestry startups with connections to industry experts, customers, suppliers, partners, pilots, investors, and industry leaders and a comprehensive commercialization curriculum. The Accelerator is developed by Do North Coworking and facilitated by ecosVC, who brings decades of experience working with companies to commercialize and launch new technologies. EcosVC's Lens of the Market curriculum works with companies to develop a market-aligned business case, a business model, and go-to-market plan, along with a compelling pitch for investors, partners, and customers.

In its first year, the Forestry Accelerator companies were focused in software, pellets, wood heat and energy, biochar, packaging, and value added products. Participating companies in the 2022 leveraged new industry connections, guidance, and mentorship to attain millions of dollars in initial customer agreement and increase revenue.

The program includes both virtual and in-person components and companies receive financial support to make two trips to Vermont's Northeast Kingdom to connect with other cohort members and industry leaders. The following is the program schedule:

-July 24th and 25th, Kickoff (virtual)
-August 21-25, Sprint 1 (Vermont)
-October 3rd-5th, Sprint 2 (virtual)
-October 30th- November 1st, Sprint 3 (Vermont)

There are additional webinars, panels, and 1:1 coaching throughout the program.

The Forestry Accelerator focuses on supporting companies in the following three areas:

*Products that use chips, dust, resins, shavings, byproducts, and other low grade wood.

*Technology that improves forest industry operations, production, automation, sales throughout the supply chain, or forest management.

*Products or services that increase the use of wood heat or energy or improve its efficiency, either through new or improved fuels or heat or energy systems.
