Supporting Homegrown Urban Business Networks

About this Program

Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation’s (CBEDC) mission is to develop
pathways to self-sufficiency for individuals, families, and small business owners in
Central Brooklyn. Our principal programs and services provide residents with
opportunities for economic mobility.

The CBEDC HUB (Homegrown Urban Businesses) Accelerator program is designed to identify the strongest proposals and provide free space on underutilized commercial corridors in Brownsville to kickstart the success of these small businesses. The project will create economic opportunity for Black entrepreneurs while revitalizing local retail space and improving the range of amenities in this historic neighborhood.

In partnership with Borough President Antonio Reynoso Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation and Jobs First to incubate Black-owned businesses in Brownsville. We look to recruit 100 local residents (groups and individuals) to go through an ideation and pitch process (8-12 weeks) to apply to the Brownsville Hub Cooperative business incubator, and 50 will be selected to participate in a formal incubator.

Of the 50 select businesses, 20 who prove to be most ready with a viable business will receive additional training/coaching support to open brick-and-mortar locations on the Belmont Avenue business corridor. Rent will be covered for 6 months by the Real-estate Board of NY.
