The Sustainable Local Food Investment Group (SLoFIG) is an investment network whose mission is to nurture the growth of a sustainable, local food system in the Chicago region. SLoFIG consists of individual angel investors united in the mission of SLoFIG and interested in financing for-profit businesses at various stages of development. The purpose of SLoFIG is to support businesses that contribute to a local food system the Chicago region "foodshed." SLoFIG defines a sustainable local food system as one that:
- Increases the health of the people who consume the food,
- Enhances the economic viability of the communities in which it is grown and processed,
- Improves the fertility of the land on which it is grown, and
- Ensures the humane treatment of livestock.
