Our Investment Focus

VentureCapital.org, powered by the Wayne Brown Institute, is the oldest and one of the most successful venture accelerators in the United States. After 33 years Alumni companies have posted impressive results, over $14 billion in financial transactions, and a 70% success rate at obtaining funding.

Applicants are typically start up to A round technology companies that can grow into venture capital funded companies. We look at IT, Life Science, Clean Tech, consumer products, & other high growth/scalable companies. We do not do real estate speculation, or oil, gas or mining exploration.  Applicants who apply here will be considered for ours and partner programs (see below).  Applicants interested in the Salt Lake Economic Development Loan Fund (EDRLF) should apply here.  More information about our programs can be found at venturecapital.org.

Investors Choice: The Investors Choice® Venture Capital Conference deliver the quality deal flow that investors are looking for, as well as, 6-8 weeks of venture-based mentoring and advice from venture professionals for entrepreneurs. Since 2009, VentureCapital.org Alumni companies have raised over $1billion dollars in angel and venture capital. In fact, the 2016/2017 cohorts have already raised over $110+ million and is rapidly approached the 70% funding rate. Please visit https://venturecapital.org/vc-events/investors-choice/ to learn more about the conference or to register to attend.

The Deal Forum: The Deal Forum provides a safe environment for entrepreneurs to test their value propositions and business models with investors. An Entrepreneur starts with 3-6 weeks of venture-based mentoring and advice from venture professionals.  The program concludes with a presentation to 4-6 angel investors for feedback, not to pass judgement.  Applicants are typically startup to seed to early A round and are technology companies. Since VC.org holds many Deal Forums in Utah and Idaho, applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

WeROC (women entrepreneurs realizing opportunities for capital): WeROC is a one-day event to be held October 26, 2017 at Salt Lake Community College to investigate the “WHY” and the “HOW”. Why do women-led companies have a more difficult time raising capital, and how can we change mindsets and shatter perceptions?  Learn more at venturecapital.org/weroc.  WeROC is typically held in the fall, we generally review applications during the summer.

WBI Angels: The WBI Angels is made of angel investors from around the country that will invest in Utah and beyond, as well as, many non-traditional local angels. It is also a window into VentureCapital.org programing. It is a great way to get introductions to local angel groups, such as the Park City and SLC Angels, the Boise Angel Alliance and the Sun Valley Band of Angels. A number of these angels are Board members of the Wayne Brown Institute (VentureCapital.org) and strongly consider investment in Alumni companies (those having participated in a previous Deal Forum® or Investor’s Choice® Conference)

EDRLF: The Salt Lake County Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund is a $7million venture debt fund designed to help early-stage technology, or advanced manufacturing companies grow their business. While currently restricted to parts of Salt Lake County, Utah, typical loan size is between $250K and $400K at competitive rates with no warrants. The fund has plenty of dry powder and if you want to know more go to www.venturecapital.org/edrlf.  Please indicate if you are applying for EDRLF.  Click on the apply here link under our investment focus.

Boise Startup Week (BSW): BSW is Idaho’s largest community-driven, entrepreneur-focused event. Each year, thousands of people come together to learn, support, and celebrate Idaho’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.  There are several events as part of the week, learn more at http://boisestartupweek.org.  Applications to present are due at the end of August each year.

Idaho Tech Expo Overview & BizTech Pitch Competition (BPC): The Idaho Business & Technology Expo is the longest running tech expo in Idaho. This expo allows exhibitors to showcase their company face to face with consumers, investors, & tech enthusiasts. The BPC is your chance to inspire and educate your peers via B2B and B2C networking. For more information visit www.IdahoTechExpo.com. This event is brought to you by Boise State University’s COBE Funding Accelerator, powered by VentureCapital.Org. This event is typically held in the spring, applications are due end of year.
