With five technologies in its portfolio, Sisu sets to prove its model with Hemafuse: a handheld device that enables clinicians to recycle blood from patients with internal bleeding, reducing the need for donor blood. Hemafuse is currently sold in Kenya ($70k revenue), has regulatory clearance in Ghana and Kenya, and ISO 13485 certification.

Team

  • Katie leads Sisu's partnership development and marketing. Katie received the Award of Excellence at the Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Conference at Calabar Teaching Hospital in Nigeria and the FIELD Africa 2016 Impact Award.

    Prior to Sisu, Katie managed public-private partnerships across Africa with universities, embassies, and NGOs. Katie was a Fulbright fellow in Rwanda and the Business Development Manager and first hire of CentriCycle.

  • Gillian Henker manages Sisu’s products and technical strategy. She is the primary inventor of Hemafuse. Gillian was named Baltimore’s “2016 Technologist of the Year.”

    Gillian previously founded a medical device design firm for Ghana. She is published in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics and presented at the Appropriate Healthcare Technologies for Developing Countries Seminar in London.

  • Carolyn manages Sisu’s strategy, business development, and fundraising. She won first place at South by Southwest Eco, Rise of the Rest with Steve Case, and was a 2016 TEDxMidAtlantic speaker.

    Prior to Sisu, Carolyn founded a medical device non-profit working with rural mobile clinics in India. She raised over $100k and was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and Business Insider. Carolyn was named Entrepreneur of the Year for her first company.

  • Sajju enables the development of Sisu's operations and business strategy. He is a serial entrepreneur, mentor and teacher with twenty years of senior management experience in industries such as healthcare (Embrace), polymers, management consulting, and renewal energy (D.Light), etc.

    His ventures have been featured on BBC, CNBC, CNN, Wall Street Journal. He is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School (ExecEd) and the University of Iowa (MBA).
