Shape Memory Orthopedics is creating Minimally Invasive Spinal & Fracture Fixation devices by merging technologies from the cardio/ endovascular fields with orthopedics. Using Nitinol, a shape memory metal, implants are being developed that transition from flexible to rigid when warmed to body temperature. Flexible to rigid implants can be delivered through small incisions with minimal disruption to muscle and surrounding tissues.
