    Daniel has a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering from the Univeristy of Sydney (University Medal). He developed an electrodynamic tether deployer (DragEn) and design software (EDTsuite). Daniel graduated with Honours in Medicine in 2009 and completed a Masters of Surgery by Research in 2013 with the Colloborative Transplant Group. He was a founder of Westmead's Emergency Medicine Interest Group and the Western Clinical School Surgical Association.

Previous projects included engineering the electrical system of Principia College’s first solar-powered car, “Ra” which eventually beat teams from MIT and Stanford in the American Solar Challenge Race. Mr. Butler also designed and implemented industry quality graphic user interfaces.
