Building a robust circular economy through partnership and innovation

About this Accelerator

NextCycle Michigan - A Recycling & Circular Economy Accelerator Program. NextCycle Michigan offers an innovative pathway in addition to traditional grant-making to attract investment and provide more opportunities to identify and incubate ideas that grow Michigan’s recycled materials supply chain and end markets. Funding for NextCycle Michigan is provided by Michigan’s Renew fund established in 2019 with funds allocated through the state budget process. Additionally, the Renew Partnership Portal provides a pathway for private organizations, trade associations, and non-profits to amplify the state’s investment in NextCycle Michigan and connect resources to Innovation Challenge Teams.

Challenges open NOW!

NextCycle Michigan Roads Challenge - Michigan’s roads, trails, and pathways are in need of repair. Glass, asphalt shingles, tires, organics, and other materials are in need of end markets. Putting these valuable materials to use and improving Michigan’s infrastructure at the same time is a win-win.

NextCycle Michigan I2P3 Challenge - Intergovernmental Initiatives & Public-Private Partnerships (I2P3) teams are challenged to bring forward initiatives which will accelerate recycling and composting in their communities to support the growth of regional circular economies through collaboration and partnerships.

NextCycle Michigan Recycling Supply Chain Challenge - Recycling Supply Chains (RSC) teams are challenged to develop innovative projects that improve or expand the collection, processing, or end markets for recyclable materials in Michigan—especially plastics, textiles, glass, fibers, and C&D debris. This challenge track is seeking out projects that focus on the development of physical recycling supply chain infrastructure through hub and spoke systems, logistics, processing, or material end market innovations.
